Review

So far the big one has produced 35.7 kWh. The little one has produced 24.4 kWh. The data range average for both of them is 0.5 KWh per day.
Our best day was May 15. That day we got about 14 KWh for both of the windmills. We got about 1/3 of our total energy.

According to our software we have prevented the release of 60.9 lbs of coal. The windmills were installed 5/5/09.

I like windmills. They are green.

The windmills

The windmills are awesome! its cool that we can get power from the wind and I am glad they didn't put them in front of the sledding hill.(Atticus)

May 4th the windmills were put up!

After we ate our snacks,we watched the small windmill be put in.Then we watched them put the blades together. We got to pick up a blade and it wasn't very heavy! The blades look like dinosaur claws.

I think that the most exciting part was when they raised the windmill up!

At 11:12 am on Monday,May 4th,it started spinning for the first time!

Ceremony Presenters

Here's more information about the check presentation ceremony.

Max, Ben, and Sean were the greeters for our guests. First we had a speech by Maeghan Maloney, who wrote the grant. Next, the Stepping Stones Upper Elementary class students made presentations. Langdon presented his project about Wind Energy. Raymond talked about energy basics like a kilowatt hour and who invented the electric generator. Joshua presented about the student blog, which you are now reading! Carlene discussed what our school is doing already to help the environment. Gabe and Anna talked about different energy sources such as wind and solar. Ariana and Bridger presented a list of the positive aspects of wind power that the class had brainstormed. Tessa told the audience about the next steps in the project once the windmills are installed. Atticus gave flowers to his mom, Maeghan, for all her hard work.

We were very excited to have lots of important people at this event, such as Augusta School Superintendent, Dr. Connie Brown; Director of the Capital Area Technical Center, Scott Phair; the Augusta City Manager, Bill Bridgeo; Augusta School Board Member, Derek Grant; Owner of All Season Home Improvement, Bob Greig (who will supply the windmills); State Farm Insurance Agents Deanna Lynn Woodruff, Betsi Taylor, Sherrie Doyon, and Dennis Keller; and of course, the Directors of Stepping Stones Montessori School, Carrie Gervais and Jennifer Cousins. Some of these people spoke about their support of the windmill project. Other Stepping Stones staff, students, and parents attended as well.

Primary kids at Stepping Stones Montessori School sang a song about windmills to end the ceremony. It was a great day.

The Beginning of the Windmill Project

Everyone at Stepping Stones Montessori School is exited about the Windmill Project. We received a service learning grant from State Farm Insurance so we can put up two windmills at the school. The students will monitor the windmills' energy output. We are receiving the check for $98,000 from State Farm on February 23 at a special ceremony at the school at 12:30pm. (Joshua)
